OTT buffs might already be aware of streaming giant Netflix’s website that features weekly top ten lists based on the metrics of the total number of hours viewed for a particular title. The portal provides viewership data under four categories namely ‘Films (English)’, ‘Films (Non-English)’, ‘TV (English)’, and ‘TV (Non-English)’.
And the only Indian film which has been able to make it to the Netflix most viewed titles list as per the latest viewership data for the ‘Films (Non-English)’ category is Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar starrer comedy-drama ‘Badhaai Do’, a spiritual follow-up to the 2018 film ‘Badhaai Ho’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana.
The website further states that ‘Badhaai Do’ was watched globally for 5.64 million hours last week, that is, from 7th March to 13th March. Whereas, on the top spot for the most-watched non-English Netflix film is the Danish World War II based drama ‘The Bombardment’. This film is about a school in Copenhagen becoming an accidental target of a bombing mission. It was watched for a massive 19.29 million hours.
Moreover, the film which ‘Badhaai Do’ has outranked in the Netflix top ten global list is the Chernobyl nuclear disaster-based Russian movie titled ‘Chernobyl 1986’. It started streaming on Netflix in July 2021 and witnessed a recent surge in Netflix viewership owing to the ongoing Russia Ukraine war.
Coming back to ‘Badhaai Do’, the film has been directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni and revolves around a policeman Shardul Thakur (Rajkummar Rao), and a physical education teacher Sumi Singh (Bhumi Pednekar), and their marriage of convenience to hide their sexual orientation. But things do not go as smoothly as they had expected.
