HBO’s stunning limited series nuclear drama, Chernobyl, swept the 2020 BAFTA TV Awards nominations, earning 14 nominations in the TV and TV crafts list, announced this morning. It won the nomination for leading actor (Jared Harris), supporting actor (Stellan Skarsgard), and a host of TV craft nominations, such as original music, costume design, hair and makeup design, production design, writer drama, scripted casting, special, visual and graphic effects, among others.
Next place in the most number of nominations is the British Royal Family chronicles drama, The Crown —seven nominations, after which there are six nominations each for Fleabag and Giri/Haji.
The Crown is nominated for best drama, supporting actor (Josh O’Conner) and supporting actress (Helena Bonham Carter), while Fleabag has two best female performance in a comedy series nominations for Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Sian Clifford.
The BAFTA TV and BAFTA TV craft Awards were originally scheduled for spring of 2020, but the Covid-19 outbreak put paid to the original plans. The Awards will now be held virtually, in a closed studio situation. The new dates announced are July 17 for the BAFTA TV craft awards, to be hosted by Stephen Mangan; and July 31st for the TV awards, to be hosted by Richard Ayoade.
