Barack, Michelle Obama To Produce Netflix Pic Leave The World Behind

Back in the year 2018, former US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama had launched their entertainment company Higher Ground by signing a multi-year with OTT giant Netflix. The production company had even won an Oscar Award for its 2020 documentary film ‘American Factory’.

And now, Higher Ground, backed by the Obamas, is now onboard a premium Netflix project – a film titled ‘Leave the World Behind’ which is based on Rumaan Alam’s critically acclaimed 2020 novel of the same name.

The Netflix film ‘Leave the World Behind’ has been written and directed by Sam Esmail, who is well known for creating the ‘Mr. Robot’ television series and Amazon Prime Video’s psychological thriller show ‘Homecoming’ starring Julia Roberts. The Netflix adaptation ‘Leave the World Behind’ features a star-studded cast that includes Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, and Myha’la Herrold.

The novel ‘Leave the World Behind’ was described as one of Barack Obama’s summer favorites. The novel’s plot follows an American couple named Amanda and Clay, who go on a holiday to a remote, rural part of Long Island. They rent a lavish summer cottage and hope to spend some quality time with their teenage kids and get a break from the bustling New York City life.

However, their seemingly perfect getaway takes an interesting turn when the holiday home’s owners Ruth and G.H. suddenly come back one night with some bad news about strange events happening outside. Can these families trust each other amidst the crisis and are they safe in the house? The book’s underlying premise touches upon the themes of race, class, and parenthood.

Before the Netflix film ‘Leave the World Behind’, Higher Ground had also produced two more feature films namely the comedy-drama movie ‘Fatherhood’, and Michael Keaton starrer ‘Worth’. Besides, the production house is also known for its Spotify podcast ‘The Michelle Obama Podcast’. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the Netflix film ‘Leave the World Behind’.
