Barbenheimer Records Historic Drop In The Second Week BO

In a cinematic phenomenon unlike any other, the combined might of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” proved to be an unstoppable force, reigning supreme at the box office during their second weekend of release.

Leading the charge was Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” which added a huge $93 million to its collection. Remarkably, the film’s ticket sales declined by just 43% from its debut, securing its place as the seventh-biggest second weekend in box office history.

Not to be outdone, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, amassed $46.6 million over the weekend. Setting yet another record, the film became the first R-rated film to gross more than $10 million for seven consecutive days on Friday.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the unprecedented drop in second-weekend box office earnings. Traditionally, movies experience a 50-60% decline in their second week as the initial excitement wanes. However, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” defied all norms, boasting a drop of just 42.3% and 44%, respectively.

The drops are historic in a way because rarely do we see such a slight drop in the second weekend. If clashes can be as great as this at the box office then there should be more of such clashes. But obviously, the biggest credit goes to the brilliant filmmaking of both the films.
