Barbie Is Warner Bros’ 2nd Highest Grosser. Only Behind This Film

California-based Warner Bros. is an eminent, 100-year-old entertainment giant which is regarded as among the ‘Big Five’ American film studios. The studio is behind hundreds of blockbuster films until now and the list includes the likes of ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, ‘The Matrix’ films, ‘Harry Potter’ films, ‘300’, ‘Superman’, ‘The Departed’, and ‘The Exorcist’, to name a few.

One of the recent additions in the illustrious list of Warner Bros. films is the fantasy comedy movie ‘Barbie’, which was released in theatres on 21st July alongside Christohper Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’. Ever since its release, Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ has not just been globally admired by movie buffs and critics but is also on a box office record-breaking spree across the globe.

Until now, ‘Barbie’ has collected more than a whopping $1.18 billion at the box office worldwide. For the year 2023, the film is now just behind the animated comedy adventure blockbuster ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, which had grossed more than $1.35 billion.

And in doing that, ‘Barbie’ has now achieved the distinction of becoming the second highest grossing Warner Bros. movie of all time. And in case you are wondering which movie holds the top spot here, then let us tell you that the eighth and final part of the ‘Harry Potter’ film series ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2’ is the highest grossing Warner Bros. movie which came out in the year 2011 and went to collect over $1.3 billion at the box office globally. And if it continues to grow at the box office, then ‘Barbie’ might even outrank the ‘Harry Potter’ film to secure the topmost spot.

‘Barbie’ is based on the immensely popular Barbie dolls made by the multinational toy company Mattel. The film follows the story of the titular character (played by Margot Robbie), whose perfect life takes an interesting turn, and she decides to take a trip to the real world along with an equally inquisitive Ken (Ryan Gosling). After reaching real-world Los Angeles, the duo gets a reality check as they discover the existence of sexism and patriarchy.
