Greta Gerwig’s fantasy adventure comedy movie ‘Barbie’ went on a box-office rampage after its theatrical release on 21st July alongside Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’. It was previously revealed that ‘Barbie’ was all set to make its digital premiere across the globe on 12th September (earlier release date was 5th September). And now, it has been confirmed that in India, ‘Barbie’ will start streaming on BookMyShow’s streaming platform BMS Stream from 12th September onwards. The movie will be available for rent / buy on the platform at a cost of Rs.499/- / Rs.799/- respectively. It will be available in English language with English subtitles in 4K format also. Yes, the rental / pay-per-view cost is quite high but that’s invariably been the case for the latest, big-ticket, and popular films like ‘Barbie’.
‘Barbie’ is based on the immensely popular Barbie dolls made by the multinational toy company Mattel. The film follows the story of the titular character (played by Margot Robbie), whose perfect life takes an interesting turn, and she decides to take a trip to the real world along with an equally inquisitive Ken (Ryan Gosling) after going through an existential crisis. After reaching real-world Los Angeles, the duo gets a reality check as they discover the existence of sexism and patriarchy.
‘Barbie’ has received an impressive critics score of 88% on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes. On IMDb, the film has got a user rating of 7.3/10. The movie has achieved the distinction of becoming the highest grossing film of 2023 so far and the highest grossing movie ever directed by a female filmmaker.
