Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure is Mohanlal’s debut as a director. It was released on December 25, 2024. This Malayalam fantasy film tells the story of Barroz, a 400-year-old guardian spirit protecting Vasco da Gama’s treasure until its rightful heir appears.
Even though it has visual brilliance, stunning cinematography, and an experimental storyline to boast about, the film received negative reviews. While the 3D effects and art design were praised, the screenplay and performances faced criticism.
The movie, featuring music by Lydian Nadhaswaram, underperformed at the box office and grossed less than ₹20 crore against its ₹150 crore budget. It remains a massive disaster.
Now, after this disastrous response on the big screens, it is finally coming on the OTT. It will be released on Disney+Hotstar. Our assumption says that it can be released this Friday or the next one because hey, it’s a disaster and there is no point waiting for a longer window on OTT.
