‘Barzakh’ To Be Removed From YouTube Pakistan Due To Queer Content

Surreal and phenomenal, that is what Zee5’s Zindgai original ‘Barzakh’ is, but unfortunately the viewers in Pakistan won’t be able to catch the Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed starrer show on YouTube anymore due to ongoing controversy over LGBTQ content.

In an official statement issued on social media Zindagi declared, “We, at Zindagi and Team Barzakh, extend our heartfelt gratitude to our global audience for their unwavering support for Barzakh – a show that was created to bring people together everywhere. But in light of the current public sentiment in Pakistan, we have made the decision to voluntarily withdraw Barzakh from YouTube Pakistan, effective August 9, 2024. This decision underscores our dedication to honouring our audiences without causing alienation. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support.”

This move comes just before the finale episode of the six episode series starts streaming from today for the global audience. It all probbaly began when two male actors in the show nearly kissed. But it wasn’t limited to just this issue and there were multiple other things that led to viewers in Pakistan getting furious with the show.

Displaying their anger for ‘Barzakh’ netizens made various comments and even started posting with #BoycottBarazkh :

Although as soon as this announcement of pulling of the show from YouTube was made many came in support of ‘Barzakh’.

In ‘Barzakh’ 76-year-old Jafar Khanzada invites his children to the Land of Nowhere for his third wedding. His sons’ arrival in the mystical valley sets them on a journey to realise the power of true love. The series tackles themes of mental health, postpartum depression, generational trauma and gender inclusivity. It also explores the role of folklore in human experience.

For viewers in India there’s nothing to worry, ‘Barzakh’ will remain available on Zee5 and YouTube India.
