The official first look of the upcoming DC Elseworlds animated film, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios, is out now. DC Elseworlds is under the control of James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, its projects will not be canon to the main DCU timeline. The duo of Gunn and Safran has greenlighted some of the projects for Elseworlds, and one of them is Batman Azteca’s animated film.
The Concept Environment Artist for Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios, Jose Iturriaga ‘Kuzeh’, recently revealed the film’s first look via Twitter (X). Check out below!
The latest image shows Batman in a completely different avatar with glowing yellow eyes. This version of the Dark Knight will surely serve as a unique take on the iconic DC superhero.
Choque de Imperios will revolve around Yohualli Coatl, who will take on the mantle of The Caped Crusader in the upcoming animated project. Coatl becomes Batman after his father dies at the hands of the Spanish Conquistadors. Traumatised by his father’s tragic death, he soon chooses the path of vengeance and starts training inside the bat god Tzinacan’s temple (serving as the film’s version of the Batcave).
In Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios, Horacio Garcia Rojas will voice the protagonist. Rojas is best known for his work in Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico. In addition, Omar Chaparro (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu) will voice The Joker. In the forthcoming film, viewers will see a priest named Yoka losing his mind after he requests his god to offer him some guidance. Soon, he starts performing human sacrifices, laying the foundation for Yoka’s transformation into The Joker.
A release window for Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios is yet to come out. Stay tuned for more updates.
