Batman Universe Based ‘Gotham Knights’ Series Gets a Pilot Order

Now is an exciting time for diehard fans of the Batman universe. As Matt Reeves directorial ‘The Batman’ starring Robert Pattinson as a younger version of the titular masked vigilante Bruce Wayne aka Batman is inching closer towards its theatrical release next month, another spin-off series titled ‘Gotham Knights’ has reportedly (via Variety) been given a pilot order by the CW channel.

Gotham Knights’ is set amidst the turbulent times following Bruce Wayne’s murder. For the killing, the needle of suspicion logically falls towards the children of Batman’s enemies. At this juncture, Batman’s adopted son teams up with the rag-tag bunch of the accused and together they become the new protectors of the crime-ridden Gotham city which is now living in its erstwhile hero Batman’s absence.

Revolving around the DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, ‘Gotham Knights’ has been penned by ‘Batwoman’ scribes Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash. While Danny Cannon is set to direct the opening episode of the show. Danny Canon is not new to the Batman universe as he had previously helmed several episodes of the television series ‘Gotham’. Besides, he had also directed shows like ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ and more recently the ‘Pennyworth’ TV series.

Besides ‘Gotham Knights’, there are talks of a Batman spin-off show reportedly being in the works based on the character of Batman’s well-known adversary Penguin. The unconfirmed spin-off series starring Colin Farrell will ostensibly revolve around the rise of the Gotham city mobster Penguin. Moreover, ‘The Flash’ movie is also expected to release later this year where Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck will reprise their roles as Batman.
