While regional movies are getting a boost in recent times, several concepts are becoming popular countrywide and are smashing box office records. One such example is Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran which has bolstered several box office records since its anticipated release.
It became the highest-grossing Sivakarthikeyan film to date with a first-day gross of Rs 21 crore net on Diwali. Given the excitement and anticipation among fans, which was increased following the first teasers and promotional materials, this was to be expected from the movie.
As the film enters its second weekend, it still holds strong and looks to aim for the 200 crore mark. The film currently stands at over 120 crores and might have another great weekend crossing the 150 crores mark.
It is giving tough competition to mainstream Bollywood movies like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again with tremendous bookings per hour in its second weekend.
At the time of writing, the per-hour bookings for Amaran are over 20k. Meanwhile, the mega Diwali releases like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (approximately 18k tickets) and Singham Again (over 12k tickets) are significantly lower in terms of advanced bookings.
Given the numbers and hype for Amaran, it might get the upper hand over all other releases despite being a regional film. As another weekend approaches our way, it will be tough battle between mainstream Bollywood movies and Amaran as we’ll see who clinches the victory this time.
