Gaston and LeFou are coming back after a long gap of 4 years in the Beauty and the Beast universe. Yes you heard it right, folks! A prequel series of the legendary fairy tale which will reportedly be set in the 2017 movie universe is in works.

Earlier yesterday we learnt that, Emma Watson starrer musical romantic fantasy film which was released in 2017 and became the tenth-highest-grossing film of all time, is getting a series which will mainly focus on two of the supporting characters of the story, Gaston and LeFou and their past, where they will unite with LeFou’s stepsister, Tilly.

We have also learnt that Luke Evans and Josh Gad who originally played the role in Beauty and the Beast in 2017, will be returning to reprise their role whereas Tilly will be portrayed by Briana Middleton who will be featuring in George Clooney’s upcoming coming-of-age drama The Tender Bar. The story of the prequel series will revolve around this trio embarking on a journey filled with comedy, romance and adventure to uncover a few mysteries and secrets from the past.

Those who are unfamiliar with the characters of Gaston and LeFou, Gaston is one of most important characters in the Beauty and the Beast kingdom and he is a narcissistic and arrogant hunter and veteran of the French Royal Army and LeFou is Gaston’s flamboyant, illiterate, animal-loving and long-suffering sidekick who strengthens his friend’s ego but often disagrees with his decisions.

As confirmed till now, this series will be created by Disney+ and they have hired Tony Award-nominated director Liesl Tommy to direct the first episode whereas composer

Alan Menken, who scored both the 1991 and 2017 Beauty and the Beast movies, will be responsible for the soundtrack of the series. Luke Evans is currently occupied with Apple series Echo 3 and Hulu’s upcoming limited series Nine Perfect Strangers and Josh Gad is currently occupied with the production on Peacock series Wolf Like Me. Once they are done with these, they will join the production of Beauty and the Beast which is set to begin in spring 2022.

This will be the first time when a Disney fairy tale is getting a prequel series directly connected with a, original film and it will be extremely interesting to see how the artists approached the same which is actually an adaptation of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont’s 1756 version of the fairy tale.
