Netflix did not have great titles to offer last year but one series definitely stood out in the crowd. Which was it?
BEEF.
The hit series BEEF is gearing up for its second season, and there’s a lot of talk about who might be in it. Lee Sung Jin, the person behind the show, recently mentioned how winning awards feels great, hinting that there could be more to come. But, if you remember then BEEF was projected as a limited series when it was released.
Rumor has it that the new season will focus on two couples who don’t get along. One pair could be played by Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny, while the other might feature Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. These actors are big stars, and they are bringing some promises and potential risks.
Even though nothing’s official yet, it seems like scripts for the new season are almost ready. Netflix and A24, the companies behind the show, are eager to start filming sometime later this year.
BEEF has already won a bunch of awards, including eight Emmys, which are like the Oscars for TV. People love the performances by Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, and they think Lee Sung Jin did an amazing job writing and directing the series. The show has also won Golden Globes and other big awards.
But why are we calling out the potential risks? This usually happens when creators wish to continue any film or solely due to great reception. They are overburdened by the fan pressure and it impacts the overall writing/execution of the show. With stars as glittering as Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal, things become even riskier. Let’s hope the simplicity and originality of BEEF remains safe even in the second season.
