The trailer of much-awaited Akshay Kumar blockbuster-to-be, ‘Bell Bottom‘ is out! The espionage thriller directed by Ranjit Tiwari, features Akshay as the dashing RAW agent, along with Huma Qureshi, Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles. Inspired by true events, the movie is based on the plane hijacks that took India by storm back in the 1980s. The trailer dives right into the story of Akshay Kumar’s character, who operates under the code name ‘Bell Bottom’ and is at the helm of a rescue operation.
Set in 1984, he must head India’s first covert operation to rescue over 200 people held hostage by four hijackers, in a hijacking that is the seventh in the past five years. Apparently, with the remaining fuel, the hijackers could only fly to three destinations: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat. The 3 and a half minute, racy action-packed thriller has Akshay charming us in his usual suave, stylish appearance with an introduction to the effect, “Shaadi shuda hai, sharp memory, national-level chess player …gaana sikhata hai, Hindi, English, German, French bol aur likh leta hai.” Vaani Kapoor plays his wife and Lara Dutta is unrecognizable as Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The trailer shows a high-stakes operation with twists and turns, that ends with Akshay’s dialogue, “Bas itna yaad rakhna, it’s not over till it’s over.”
Akshay Kumar had revealed yesterday in his trademark charismatic style that the film will release in theatres in 3D on August 19, 2021. Akshay alongwith his co-stars, producers Deepshikha Deshmukh and Jackky Bhagnani left for Delhi earlier today for the trailer launch. He took to his social media handle and informed fans about the trailer release, tweeting, “Bringing back the magic of the big screen with #BellBottom. #BellBottomTrailer out now.”
Written by Aseem Arora and Parveez Shaikh, the film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikhil Advani. It was reported earlier today that news came out about cinema theatres and multiplexes in Maharashtra to remain shut until further notice. The makers of ‘Bell Bottom’ had planned their release based on the assumption that theatres would be open, but it is to be seen if they go ahead with the release date, since Maharashtra constitutes for nearly 30% of a film’s profits. This film was the first to start and finish shooting during the pandemic and will be among the first few films to release theatrically post the second wave of Covid. Well, we laud the makers for their patience, since the film has been ready for nine months now! We hope the film gets a smooth release and the necessary love it deserves!
