Auteur filmmaker Wes Anderson is making his first film for Netflix. The film, titled ‘The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar’ is an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s eponymous collection of short stories, ‘The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar And Six More’. The Netflix film is the result of Netflix’s acquisition of Roald Dahl’s works to be adapted into content for the streaming giant.
The first film from the collection is now on its way to fruition. Netflix has roped in Wes Anderson to direct the live-action adaptation of the story. Along with Anderson, Netflix has set up a terrific cast for ‘The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar’. Benedict Cumberbatch is on board to play the titular character of Henry Sugar, as announced by Netflix yesterday. Even as film followers just about digested this news comes another interesting update on the cast of the film. Stellar actors Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel and Ben Kingsley have joined Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘The Wonderful World Of Henry Sugar’.
For those who don’t know, unlike Roald Dahl’s popular works, ‘The Wonderful World Of Henry Sugar’ is not for small kids. It is written for older readers, and thus lends itself well to making a film that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The story centers on Henry Sugar, a compulsive gambler who steals a book written by an Indian known as “The Man Who Sees Without Using His Eyes”. The book teaches him to see through objects and predict the future, an ability which he uses to win big at the casino. However, his ability triggers a chain of events that have far-reaching consequences.
The character of Henry Sugar is perfect for Benedict Cumberbatch, given his penchant to play quirky characters with unique personality traits. Dev Patel will most likely essay the role of the Indian man with extraordinary visionary powers.
