Benedict Cumberbatch Reveals Reason for ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Reshoots

Earlier this month, we had made our readers aware of the major reshoots happening for Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’. And that the new shooting schedule for the highly anticipated ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel will include both additional photography and significant reshoots in Los Angeles over a period of at least six weeks.

The update naturally resulted in some worrying speculations for fans globally. However, Marvel enthusiasts can now heave a sigh of relief as the lead actor of the ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel, Benedict Cumberbatch, has shed some light (via Empire Magazine) regarding the reason for the reshoot.

Benedict Cumberbatch has said that “We’re in the middle of reshoots and we’re working incredibly hard to make a schedule work to realize the full potential of the film – bits that we want to do better but also bits that were just impossible to do on the day because of logistics, COVID, etc. We were so delayed in production because of that. Luckily, not during production too much. Although everything is just a little slower.”

Despite the film’s postponement from March to May 2022, Marvel enthusiasts are still amped-up about ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’.

Firstly, because the sequel brings back legendary ‘Evil Dead’ director Sam Raimi into the superhero genre after the acclaimed ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy starring Tobey Maguire as the adorable web-slinger. And secondly, because the film’s story further delves into the intriguing multiverse concept.

Under the ambit of MCU’s Phase 4, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ would ostensibly take place after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘WandaVision’, and ‘Loki’ first season. Besides, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch, the sequel will also see Elizabeth Olsen and Rachael McAdams reprise their roles of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Christine Palmer respectively.

After Benedict Cumberbatch’s statement regarding the reshoots for ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’, Marvel aficionados are hoping that these reshoots will result in a better version of the film and will only enhance the overall viewing experience for audiences.

Besides ‘Doctor Strange 2’, Benedict Cumberbatch will next be seen alongside Tom Holland in another high-profile Marvel film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which is set for a theatrical release on 17th December.
