The Bengali movie ‘Bhootpori’ will soon be available to watch on OTT. It will premiere on Addatimes on the 28th of April. The movie is written and directed by Soukarya Ghoshal and it came out in February this year.
The movie tells the story of a young boy named Surja who goes to a vacation in his ancestral house and is told about his great-great-grandfather who was a powerful spiritual leader. He is forbidden from going to the nearby forest but he still goes over there. Surja encounters a beautiful ghost who is dreaded by all but is seen by nobody. The ghost asks the boy to help her find out the truth behind her death. The movie blends the elements of gothic horror with a simple village romance. People who are fans of folk horror movies are going to like it very much.
The cast includes Jaya Ahsaan in the lead role. And has actors like Sudipta Chakroborty, Abhijit Guha, Shantilal Mukherjee in important roles. The wonderful Ritwick Chakroborty is also in a beautiful role in the movie. The performances are all good and you should not miss the movie at any cost if you are a fan of Bengali films.
‘Bhootpori’ has the typical Bengali ‘bhut bhut’ essence in it, where it does not really terrify but intrigues the audiences to know the ghost more closely. It cannot easily by tagged as a horror comedy or a folk horror movie, as it has more elements of fairytale than of horror itself.
