Best Reviewed Tamil Film of 2022: PS-1, Vikram or Kadaisi Vivasayi?

The year 2022 has been an exciting year for Indian cinema and the Tamil film industry too also made its presence felt in a big way. Although many Tamil language films were released this year, some of the popular and/or critically acclaimed movies which stood apart this year were ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part One’, ‘Vikram’, ‘Gargi’, ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’, ‘Love Today’, and ‘Taanakkaran’, amongst others. Although all these films have their own fan following, we were still curious to know which one has been the best reviewed Tamil film of the year 2022. So, let’s find out.

So, as per the above reviews analysis, it’s neither ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part One’ nor ‘Vikram’ which has received the best reviews on Google and IMDb, but it’s the relatively understated film ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’ which has beaten both these films to become the best reviewed Tamil film of 2022. ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’ had even cracked the coveted Letterboxd top 50 movies international list (2022).

In second place is Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ while in third place is the romantic comedy drama movie ‘Love Today’.

Helmed by M. Manikandan, the film’s plot revolves around an octogenarian man named Maayandi, who is the last active farmer in a remote village in Tamil Nadu. He is not willing to sell his land to property developers. But on one seemingly routine day, Maayandi is accused and imprisoned for killing three peacocks (National Bird of India) – an act which he did not commit. What happens next forms the rest of the film’s story. The movie also features Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu in supporting roles.
