Vishal Bharadwaj is known for his literary adaptations. He is the one filmmaker we trust when it comes to adapting the much famous classics. From Hamlet, Macbeth or Othello to Ruskin Bond’s ‘The Blue Umbrella’ and ‘Suzanna’s Seven Husbands’ he has done it all with smooth deftness. For the fans of his films, we are happy to announce that the shooting for his next project is complete now.
Vishal Bharadwaj is helming ‘Charlie Chopra And The Mystery Of Solang Valley’ which is adapted from a famous detective story by Agatha Christie. The original novel is named ‘The Sittaford Mystery’ and is considered one of the best pieces of detective literature. Charlie Chopra will be a SonyLIV original show.
The series will have a galaxy of stars. With actors like Wamiqa Gabbi, Lara Dutta, Priyanshu Painyuli, Naseeruddin Shah, Neena Gupta, Ratna Pathak Shah, Gulshan Grover, Chandan Roy Sanyal, and Paoli Dam we expect some power packed performances in the film.
The iconic Miss Marple is named Charlie Chopra in the series. In the original story, six people sit in a seancé in a secluded house in Dartmoor and a spirit appears and utters cryptic words about a murder. Marple investigates the case. This is the first time Christie has incorporated any supernatural element to any of her work.
With such a wonderful cast and crew and the audience’s trust for the stories that Bharadwaj offers, it is definitely going to be groundbreaking. There are many detective stories made in India, but few have a universal appeal. This is Vishal Bharadwaj’s OTT debut and this is also the first time he is directing a detective story. It is just as special to fans as it is to him and they are eagerly waiting for it.
