After setting post pandemic records at the box office, Karthik Aaryan‘s horror comedy film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2‘ dropped on Netflix India this Sunday. The film is still enjoying a dream-run at the box-office. It’s racing towards 180 crore back at the domestic box office and around 250 crores worldwide. The film is for now the second highest grossing hindi movie of 2022. Now with the film landing on Netflix, trending on top 10 is meant to be.
Not only is the film trending on top 10 Netflix India, but it occupied the first position by dethroning She Season 2 within a day. However, it is yet to be seen if the 30 day streaming window for theatricals would bring down the collections of the films already doing well at the box-office. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 collected around 5 crores in its fourth weekend eventhough the film dropped on streaming on a Sunday. This could be a hint at the fact that there’s an evident divide between the streaming audience and theatre-going audience atleast in India.
However, this could also attribute to the fact that after Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, there weren’t big ticket hindi releases at the movies barring Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj that bombed at the box office giving the Karthik Aaryan starrer a huge leeway. With upcoming releases like Jug Jugg Jeeyo, the collections of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 are meant to fall. Nevertheless this still doesn’t lessen the impact the film has had both at the movies and now with the streaming audience.
A spiritual sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2007 blockbuster horror comedy, Bhook Bhulaiyaa, the film stars Tabu, Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra. The film is directed by Anees Bazmee and bankrolled by T-Series. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 follows Karthik Aaryan as a fraud psychic Ruhaan Randhawa who is brought to exorcise the ghost of Manjulika, who is on a mission to hunt the Thakur family.
