‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ Skips Theatres, Goes Digital Amid Security Concerns

Maddock’s upcoming film ‘Bhook Chuk Maaf’ was scheduled to release in theatres on 9th May, 2025 but the makers have decided to cancel it and instead the film will now land directly on Prime Video on 16th May, 2025.

The step has been taken “in light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation”. Makers further stated that while they were eagerly looking forward to celebrate ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ with the public in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first.

The security drills or mock drills were conducted across India on Wednesday, 7th May as part of national civil defence exercise to assess the nation’s emergency response readiness amid rising India-Pak tensions. This came post Operation Sindoor conducted by Indian Armed Forces after the terror attack at Pahalgam.

The move by Maddock has been welcomed by some but many others believe the real reason behind such shift is lack of buzz for the film, weak script, and poor advance booking numbers. People were quick to suggest that the filmmaker’s are scared that ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ wouldn’t do well in theatres and hence this move, after all ‘Raid 2’ is already running in cinemas and doing great. Some movie enthusiasts also opined that the possibility of postponing the release was also open if the makers felt this wasn’t the appropriate time.

A quirky family comedy drama, ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ is directed by ‘Maharani’ fame Karan Sharma and stars Rajkumar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in lead roles. The film follows Ranjan, a small-town romantic boy from Banaras who lands a government job to marry Titli but forgets his vow to Lord Shiva-only to be trapped in a time loop until he fulfills his promise. What follows is a hilarious tale of love, fate, and redemption. ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ will now land on Prime Video on 16th May, 2025.
