Saroj Khan is one of the best choreographers the film industry has seen and probably there won’t be anyone after her for a long, long time now. She has given the Indian cinema some iconic dance moves that will forever remain in everyone’s memories. Sadly, Saroj Khan left for her heavenly abode last year and the void left behind by her for sure can’t be filled by anyone else. Saroj Khan has been a mentor and guiding figure for many and everyone in the industry has nothing, but respect for a great dancer and choreographer like her.
Now, celebrating her and keeping her memory alive, T-Series and Bhushan Kumar have announced their next project. This project will be a biopic of Saroj Khan’s and the company has officially acquired the rights of her life story from her family members, especially her children Raju Khan, Sukaina Khan, and the daughters of Hina Khan, who was Saroj Khan’s daughter but sadly passed away in February 2019. T-series took to their social media profiles to announce the same.
Saroj Khan has been a legendary figure in Bollywood. She is known as the first female choreographer in Bollywood and is fondly called “Masterji” by everyone in the industry. She is known for the dance form “Mujra”, which was made popular in Bollywood through various movies. She has choreographed around 3000 songs in a career spanning over forty years, which by far is one of the highest by anyone in the industry.
She has received various accolades throughout her lifetime as a choreographer. She is the recipient of the most number of National Film Awards with 3 awards in the category for Best Choreography. She has received an award for her iconic choreography of “Dola Re Dola” from Devdas, “Sringaram” and for the song “Yeh Ishq Haaye” from Jab We Met. Along with National Awards, she is the recipient of many Filmfare Awards, IIFA, and other iconic awards.
She is the person behind the dance moves of Dola Re Dola, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’s “Nimbooda Nimbooda”, Guru’s “Barso Re”, Khalnayak’s “Choli Ke Peeche”, Beta’s “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga” and Tezaab’s “Ek Do Teen”. Most of her iconic dances have been associated with Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai.
Before this biopic, a documentary on Khan’s life had already been released in 2012. The documentary was directed by Nidhi Tuli. Saroj Khan in her life has gone through various hardships, has conquered an industry that has been ruled by men, and saw herself at the top of her game. This would be interesting to see how her life story unfolds on the big screen, which she has been a part of for more than 40 years.
Also, no cast reveal has been done at this moment regarding the film. T-Series has announced that with time, it will come up with more news. But one thing is for sure, whosoever gets to essay the role of Saroj Khan, without doubt, has to be brilliant in dance, besides everything else.
