Netflix has, for the first time, announced a collaboration with another rival platform in India. It is joining hands with Viacom18’s digital arm Tripping Point for three productions. We also have names of the three projects – She, Jamtara: Sabka Number Aayega and Taj Mahal 1989.
Among the three, Taj Mahal 1989 is up and running immediately. Noted names from alternate cinema or the art movies and multiplex will part of this series. Some of them, like Neeraj Kabi, already made a mark in the digital space. He was part of Sacred Games, while others, like Sheeba Chabba seen in blockbuster Badhaai Ho will be hoping to repeat the magic here as well.
Apart from Neeraj and Sheeba, Geetanjali Kulkarni and Danish Hussian seen in films like Photograph and Dhobi Ghat will be part of Taj Mahal 1989.
As the title suggests, Taj Mahal 1989 will be about love set in the backdrop of Taj Mahal and Agra. The series will debut in the second half of 2020. It will be available to stream on Netflix and Voot simultaneously. A partnership of this kind will be a first for Netflix in India.
