Freevee is now being shut down by Amazon. Freevee is the free ad-run content extension of Amazon and now the content will be shifted to Prime Video.
The platform was launched under the brand of IMDB around five years back.
An spokesperson for Amazon has said, “To deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out Freevee branding.” It has been stated that there will be no change in the content slate for Prime Video and also there wull be a huge amount of content still available for free streaming. For example, Amazon MiniTV is doing pretty good in India and it is highly unlikely that it will be shut down like Freevee anytime soon.
Freevee was there for countries like the USA, UK, Germany and Austria. And now, the free content will be available on these countries on Prime Video itself. There will be a new section with ‘Watch for free’ label on it. How successful this new system will be only time can tell. It will not probably help in any increment of the subscriber base of Prime Video.
The various projects that came out on Freevee are ‘Neigjbours’, ‘Jury Duty’, ‘Bosch: Legacy’, ‘Alex Rider’ and more. These shows have been hugely popular in countries like the USA and Australia.
