Biggest Shock to Anime Industry with Huge Leak at Netflix, CR etc

No matter how secure or advanced we may become, hackers are always a step ahead. See the case of Netflix now. And why just Netflix but the entire Anime industry?

The anime community was hit hard when several highly anticipated titles were leaked online. This is perhaps the biggest leak in the anime industry and it has sent shockwaves throughout.

The ordeal began on August 6, when pirated versions of upcoming anime shows started appearing on torrent sites like BitTorrent and 4chan.

These leaks had blurred watermarks, but who cares? At least those who leaked it don’t.

Among the leaked content is the reboot of Rumiko Takahashi’s classic anime Ranma ½, which had its entire first course leaked online. Additionally, Dan Da Dan, an anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga, suffered a severe blow with its first two episodes being leaked two months ahead of their official release. Reports have since confirmed that all 12 episodes of Ranma ½ and Episodes 3-6 of Dan Da Dan are now available online illegally.

The leak couldn’t have come at a worse time for Netflix, which is expanding its anime catalogue.

The streaming giant was planning a global launch of Dan Da Dan on October 5, following its theatrical screenings in Asia on August 31 and a world premiere of the English dub at Anime NYC on August 24. This leak could significantly impact the success of these events and the overall reception of the series.

The damage extends beyond Netflix, affecting other platforms like Crunchyroll and GKIDS.

Crunchyroll, which was set to simulcast some of the leaked series, has already faced similar issues earlier this year when Tower of God Season 2 was leaked after its Anime Expo 2024 showcase.

Moreover, all eight episodes of Terminator Zero, a much-anticipated anime collaboration between Skydance Animation and Production IG, were leaked just weeks before their planned August 29 release.

While Netflix has yet to release an official statement, the implications of these leaks are serious. They threaten to undermine the hard work of the creators and diminish the excitement for these shows.

While makers can choose to be as careful as they wish, such things are inevitable. Who could have thought that we would see such a massive setback out of nowhere.
