Telugu language film ‘Bimbisara‘ was released on August 5th this year. Though the film was a hit and gave some respite to the struggling theatre owners, the makers completely going silent on its release date on OTT had fans confused. Now finally after more than 10 weeks, the movie is set to have its digital premiere.
It was already confirmed that homegrown OTT giant ZEE5 had acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights for the movie. However, the streaming platform had given no update on the release date till now. In a clip on the ZEE5 Twitter handle, the dates for this month’s big releases were announced and one among them was ‘Bimbisara’ which will have its release on 21st October.
In times where films are released on OTT platforms mere weeks (generally 4 weeks) upon release, why ZEE5 would not announce Bimbisara’s release date to make use of the buzz around the film had many fans confused. This also disappointed fans who couldn’t see the film in theatres and were waiting to watch it on OTT. Even films like ‘Karthikeya 2’ which was released much after ‘Bimbisara’ had release dates announced and fans were left wondering if ZEE5 had forgotten they were holding the hit film in their hands!
The Nandamuri Kalyan Ram starrer was written and directed by Mallidi Vassishta and was produced by N. T. R. Arts. The film also costars Catherine Tresa, Samyuktha Menon, and Prakash Raj. The movie is reportedly being turned into a film franchise, with another three films on the cards.
