Binged Yearenders: Top Indian Production Houses Of 2023

The year 2023 has come to an end, and it turned out to be a much better year for Indian production houses than last year. Films like Jawan, Pathaan, Animal, and Gadar 2 took the Indian box office to new heights. From watching Sunny Deol returning to his iconic roaring form with Gadar 2 to witnessing Ranbir Kapoor using his raw and intense performance to make Animal a sensational hit, we watched many amazing movies this year. And without a doubt, we should all admit that the year 2023 truly belonged to the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan.

Here are the top Indian production houses of 2023!

T-Series (1730.47 crores)

Before Animal’s release, things were not looking good for T-Series at all this year. The production house played a huge gamble with Adipurush, but that gamble did not pay off. The Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer collected nearly 450 crores, yet it bombed at the box office due to its significant budget of around 500-700 crores. But thanks to Ranbir Kapoor, the savior of T-Series! His films, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar (220 crores) and Animal (880.8 crores – still running), saved the production house and earned big bucks. T-Series also produced other films this year, like Bholaa (111.6 crores), Shehzada (47.5 crores), Gumraah (10.6 crores), and more.

YRF (1522 crores)

YRF’s Pathaan started the year 2023 with a bang, marking the grand return of Shah Rukh Khan to full-fledged acting roles after a long gap of five years. Many believed SRK’s acting career lost its fuel after Zero (2018) flopped at the box office. But Pathaan marked the actor’s resurgence in the Indian entertainment industry. The film grossed over 1050 crores and earned positive reviews from both critics and audiences. We also watched SRK’s Pathaan making an extended cameo in Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, which minted nearly 466 crores. However, Vicky Kaushal disappointed with The Great Indian Family (6 crores). In addition, the studio distributed Kuttey, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, Jawan (overseas) and Dunki (overseas).

Red Chillies Entertainment – 1441 crores

Like Pathaan, Jawan proved that Shah Rukh Khan can also do action roles flawlessly. Both these films strengthened the actor’s image as an action star. Jawan minted over 1148 crores and received a better response from critics than Pathaan. Additionally, the actor’s latest collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki (293 crores – still running), has impressed the viewers.

Zee Studios – 1395 crores

If it were not for Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 (691 crores), Zee Studios would not have even appeared on this list. The outstanding performance of the sequel proves how much people love the first entry (2001). Apart from Gadar 2, Thunivu is the only Zee Studios project that earned respectable figures at the box office this year, 230 crores. Moreover, the studio surprised everyone by delivering Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s critically acclaimed 12th Fail to audiences, which collected approximately 65 crores and emerged as a sleeper hit. The rest of the studio’s productions failed to impress the viewers, including Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (182.5 crores) and Rani Mukerji’s Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway (36.5 crores).

Seven Screen Studios – 620 crores

Known primarily for producing Tamil-language films, Seven Screen Studios bestowed only one flick this year, Leo. This Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directional minted over 620 crores during its run, emerging as the highest-grossing Tamil film in 2023. Led by Vijay, the film’s star cast also has talents like Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, and more.
