Netflix India has been leaning into journalist-centric content lately. Back in 2023, they delivered Scoop, a testament to how great an adaptation can be.
However, there was one major complaint.
Fans of the original book weren’t entirely happy with the adaptation. Why? Because it barely scratched the surface. Netflix likely exercised creative liberty to keep it lighter for a general audience. The book was intense and too explicit for television.
What Scoop left unexplored, Black Warrant dives into. This adaptation is not only accurate and unfiltered but also does a commendable job of toning down the action across its seven episodes.
Vikramaditya Motwane has done an excellent job blending the plot with phenomenal storytelling, something most adaptations struggle with.
The highlight of the series is that it doesn’t feel like a documentary. Instead of merely reporting events, it tells a compelling story and builds engaging characters.
Set in Tihar Jail, Delhi, the series feels grounded and real—exactly what fans hope for.
Overall, Netflix India is off to a strong start this year. The question remains—can they maintain this streak?
