Marvel has come out with some big news regarding the release of “Black Widow”. The Scarlett Johansson starrer movie will have a run time of 2 hourse and 13 minutes and might be releasing simultaneously on Disney+ and in theatres. The movie will be coming out on May 7th, 2021.
The pandemic ruined plans for almost all big production houses that were set to release some of the biggest and most awaited flicks. One of them being Marvel’s Black Widow. It was supposed to be released last year in May, but after what the world went through, it was postponed. In the beginning it mentioned that it would be released in the later months of the year, but who knew the year 2020 would close out on us like that. Since then, all the plans for the release were taken back.
Marvel made it clear that even though, most of the Phase 4 series and many others will be coming to Disney+ directly, they made sure Black Widow released in theatres first. The officials from Marvel had also mentioned how they think Black Widow needs the same amount of theatrical greatness, like the earlier ones from the MCU. Hence, they were really pushing the release of it for a theatre release.
But as Marvel came out with it’s plan for OTT during the Investor’s Day program at Disney, it mentioned that Phase 4 of the MCU will officially begin with the release of WandaVision, coming in January. During the last months of 2020, Marvel decided for a May 2021 release for Black Widow in theatres and that sparked our hopes of seeing our beloved spy on screen again.
But now Marvel was contemplating on the release of the movie. Will it first release in theatres or later on the app was a big question for them. This doubt most definitely came around, as they saw the immense success OTT and how others were releasing movies, either simultaneously on OTT or just after few days of it’s release. This is why it seems they might have completely turned their thought around and decided to give Black Widow, the glory of both theatrical release and an OTT release.
Hoping that the movie sees no more delays in it’s release and finally be out just like it has been planned till now.
