Netflix has acquired the rights for yet another comic book series and this is all about a lady leading the way and they have got the beautiful Blake Lively to do the job. Netflix is all set to adapt Lady Killer, based on the Dark Horse Comics. The comic book adaptation will be turned into a movie by the streaming platform and Blake Lively will not only lead but also produce the movie for Netflix.
Besides Blake Lively, Netflix has also got onboard Oscar winning writer Diablo Cody to write the adaptation of Lady Killer for the platform. The movie and Blake Lively fit each other perfectly as the story follows a lady named Josie Schuller in the 1950s. She is the perfect housewife that everyone wishes for, and is completely devoted to her husband and her housework, but like everyone else she too at times gets bored and sets out on adventures.
Here comes the twist, she has a secret life and that is what brings in all of her adventures. She is a highly trained killer, who is hired to kill people and she loves her secret life dearly. She maintains a perfect balance, and this is the reason the husband is clueless about his wife turning into a trained killer at times.
Diablo Cody has won Oscars for Juno and Tully and both of these have been amazing movies. Seeing that, we are sure that Lady Killer too will be an amazing movie. Her most recent venture was writing the biopic for Madonna, which the singer herself will be directing at Universal.
The movie will be produced by Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg of Dark Horse Entertainment. While Lively and Kate Vorhoff will produce for B for Effort. The comic is written by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich. It has been published by Dark Horse Comics since January 2015 and also been nominated for Eisner Awards in 2016 for Best Limited Series.
Jones has mentioned in an interview that this comic was in fact a result of their love for everything vintage, especially illustrations from the 50s-70s era. With that, they wanted to combine the role of a woman who would have a dual life and wanted to see how it goes when a traditional household’s woman meets action.
This is not the first time, Dark Horse Entertainment and Netflix have come together. They have both signed a first look deal with each. Their earlier collaboration was Netflix’s hugely successful “Umbrella Academy” and also Jonas Åkerlund’s Polar. They have one more adaptation in store which is the upcoming “Mystery Girl” starring Tiffany Haddish.
