Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto has found his next directional project. He will helm the upcoming buddy action flick, The Wrecking Crew, at MGM. The Wrap first broke this news.
Jonathan Topper wrote the film’s script before the commencement of the WGA strike. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
MGM is eyeing Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista to lead ‘The Wrecking Crew’. On the other hand, Soto will serve as the film’s director, screenwriter, and one of the producers. His latest project, Blue Beetle, earned nearly $44 million globally in its first weekend. Critics have praised the film’s humour, action sequences, and Xolo Mariduena’s take on the superhero.
Blue Beetle tells the story of Jamie Reyes, a Mexican-American teenager. It is the first live-action project to feature a Latino superhero as the protagonist.
Soto is also co-writing a Transformers spin-off project for Paramount, which he will helm as well. In addition, he is attached to the development of an animated/live-action project for the studio, starring Ryan Reynolds. The filmmaker is also known for helming HBO Max’s Charm City Kings, which premiered at Sundance in January 2020. Stay tuned for more updates.
