Initially slated for an HBO Max OTT release, the DCEU superhero movie starring ‘Cobra Kai’ actor Xolo Maridueña in the lead role was finally released in theatres last month on 18th August. And for those of you who missed watching it in cinemas, the movie is all set to arrive on an Indian streaming platform.
‘Blue Beetle’ will start streaming in India on BookMyShow’s streaming platform BMS Stream from 29th September onwards. The movie will be available for rent / buy on the platform at a cost of Rs.499/- / Rs.799/- respectively. It will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages with English subtitles in 4K format also. Yes, the rental / pay-per-view cost is quite high but that’s invariably been the case for the latest, big-ticket, and popular films like ‘Blue Beetle’. Besides streaming on BMS Stream, ‘Blue Beetle’ will likely also arrive concurrently on other platforms like Amazon Prime Video on a rental basis.
‘Blue Beetle’ is a superhero origin story of the titular protagonist Blue Beetle aka Jaime Reyes (played by Xolo Maridueña). The film’s plotline revolves around a Mexican teenager Jaime Reyes, who accidentally finds an alien scarab called Blue Beetle, which gives the boy a superpowered exosuit, thereby granting him superspeed and superstrength amongst other incredible abilities.
Despite receiving decent, if not great, feedback from critics and audiences, ‘Blue Beetle’ delivered an underwhelming performance at the box-office, collecting around $123 million globally. The film is ‘Certified Fresh’ and has received a critics’ score of 78% on reviews aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes with a much higher audience score of 92%.
