It is quite unprecedented in recent years that a Bengali film is gaining this much appreciation and making it this big at the box office. ‘Bohurupi’ has broken many records and it looks like it will break many more.
After emerging as a clear winner among the three anticipated Bengali titles that were released during Durga Puja, ‘Bohurupi’ has given tough competition to some big Hindi titles in the Bengali box office too.
The movies like Jigra and Vicky Vidya Ka Wo Wala Video are not keeping up with the ticket sales of Bohurupi and the Bengali thriller is way ahead of them. There used to be a stigma in the industry about not releasing any movie when any big Hindi movie is having a release. But it looks like things are changing now.
Bohurupi has become the first Bengali movie in 2024 to cross the 10 Crore mark and it is a huge achievement. 10 crore does not seem to be a very big deal when compared to other industries, but the budget and scale for these movies are very low too. Maybe in a few more years, there will be more movies like ‘Bohurupi’ that will compete with other industries in the National market and not just in the local box office.
