Bollywood Needs More of Pankaj Tripathi in All Forms

By Binged Bureau - Nov 18, 2020 @ 09:11 pm

Pankaj Tripathi right now is ruling our screens and our hearts equally. This versatile actor debuted into Bollywood in the year 2004 with small roles in Run and Omkara, but little did people know how big of a person he would become when the time comes and let’s be grateful that we are the generation that got to see the uprising of Pankaj Tripathi. He comes from a small town in Bihar, where he belongs to the family of farmers and priests. He went on to take a degree from the National School of Drama and after that there was no looking back.

Pankaj Tripathi gained the main momentum of his fame from his antagonistic role in the Gangs of Wasseypur film, where he played a butcher and that is when Bollywood started taking notice of what a gem of a person he is, both as an actor and a human being. There was nothing stopping him now, he went on to play various roles both positive and negative and garnered attention and love from everyone. He became one of the most sought after men in Bollywood. He became a household name through his role in Mirzapur and along with that he has done some critically acclaimed roles that won him awards and love too.

Right after Mirzapur released and when the blow of it was still strong and ongoing we saw the release of Anurag Basu’s much awaited “Ludo”, where we had Pankaj Tripathi playing the role of a gangster. Again. His brilliance has made him very lovable and his justice to such characters is probably what draws writers, producers and directors to approach him for such roles. But this has started becoming monotonous now, we have been associating Tripathi with gangster/criminal/goon roles for quite some time and it almost feels like we don’t want to see him as anyone else, but that’s not true. Gunjan Saxena that released a few months ago saw Tripathi playing a doting father to the young Air Force Pilot Gunjan Saxena and the way that he executed that role stole the show for us. He didn’t have much in it but whatever he had was more than enough for us. Tripathi himself has once told in an interview that he doesn’t like movies and shows where he has guns and all those gaalis. But he knows and we know that’s the part of his job.

Bollywood has seen an immense number of actors come up over the decades who have played the roles of gangsters and criminals and it feels like somehow Tripathi is also being led and put into those categories, but we as his fans know that can’t be the case. That man has the most amazing potential and he can carry on any character flawlessly and in another very recent interview he was seen mentioning that for the next year we will not be seeing him in such roles. Meaning, there’s more of Pankaj Tripathi for us in store.

Now, that’s us wishing to see him in more varied roles and keep making us fall in love with cinema over and over again.
