India is a land that is rich in terms of its cultural heritage, a fact that we always say in our preamble, but there are times and instances when we forget to acknowledge and celebrate our differences. Bombay Rose is a story that tackles all the prevailing issues in our society which is filled with many religious differences.
Bombay Rose is the brainchild of Gitanjali Rao who is an actress, animator, and filmmaker. Every scene of this movie had to be painstakingly and meticulously painted frame by frame, which requires a lot of patience.
It is a story of three tales of love that are scorned upon by our society. The love between a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy, Love between two women and the love of an entire city for its Bollywood stars form the crux of this film along with some heart-warming music and a red rose that brings all of them together.
It paints a society where the love stories on the big screen can be crushed in the mean streets of your everyday life. The glamour and the diversity seem all good until things get out of hand in a particularly orthodox society. Bombay Rose can certainly be a breath of fresh air, especially with so much communal disharmony that is going on around us. Can two lovers of the same gender or different religions coexist in a society that scorns at the thought of both?
The things that frighten us the most are the things about which we understand the least. Bombay Rose strives to capture the essence of this statement. It will be releasing on Netflix on December 4th.
