Joe and Anthony Russo’s heavy budget action flick ‘The Gray Man’ just gets bigger and bigger. ‘No Time To Die’ actor Ana De Armas has joined the already heavy cast of Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling. The Russo Brothers’ have been working on developing the project in collaboration with Sony for sometime and when the project went back on the market, Netflix bought it and quickly cast both Gosling and Evans. This movie will be Netflix’s most expensive (biggest budget) feature to date.
‘The Gray Man’ is adapted from the debut novel of the name by Mark Greaney, released in 2009 by Jove Books. It is the first one in the series of books that followed which featured The Gray Man – a freelance assassin and a former CIA secret agent Court Gentry. The action spy thriller will follow Gentry (Gosling) as he’s hunted all over the world by his former CIA partner/ colleague, Lloyd Hansen (Evans).
Ana De Armas has been coming on a lot of films lately – she got a Golden Globe performance for the muder mystery ‘Knives Out’, she came in the movies ‘Sergio’, ‘The Night Clerk’ and ‘The Informer’ and she will be starring alongside Daniel Craig in the 25th James Bond film ‘No Time To Die’. She will also be seen in ‘Deep Water’ opposite Ben Affleck and she is also set to star in ‘Blonde’, where she is set to portray Norma Jeane (AKA Marilyn Monroe).
The film was originally set to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie back in 2016, with Charlize Theron set to play a gender swapped version of Court Gentry, with Brad Pitt set to star as Lloyd Hansen. It was first offered to Angelina Jolie after ‘Salt’ but she declined the role. Still the combination of Pitt and Theron would have been brilliant. Even if Gentry was supposed to save his (her, in this case) child that he (she) didn’t know about, in the books. Still the writers could have worked around it (maybe).
