Brad Pitt to Star in a Racing Movie by Top Gun: Maverick Director

Academy award-winning Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has reportedly been roped in to star in a racing movie to be directed by Joseph Kosinski. The yet-untitled film has prompted a bidding war between not just prominent studios like Universal, Sony, MGM, and Paramount, but also amongst OTT giants like Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and Apple.

The talented filmmaker Joseph Kosinski had previously directed Disney’s sci-fi flick ‘TRON: Legacy’, Tom Cruise starrer ‘Oblivion’ and the upcoming ‘Top Gun’ sequel titled ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. His forthcoming directorial project also includes an action film featuring Chris Hemsworth.

Besides prominent names of the likes of Brad Pitt and Joseph Kosinski attached with the racing film, the involvement of legendary British Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton is also being speculated. However, the film’s plotline or premise is currently not known.

Hollywood and Brad Pitt’s tryst with adrenaline-fueled car racing movies is not new. One of the most recent and also amongst the best car racing films was James Mangold’s ‘Ford vs Ferrari’ (2019) starring Matt Damon (as automotive designer Carroll Shelby) and Christian Bale (as racing engineer and driver Ken Miles) in the lead roles. Interestingly, the film was initially slated to feature Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the lead roles.

Prior to ‘Ford vs Ferrari’, another brilliantly executed racing movie ‘Rush’ (2013) was helmed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard. The film revolved around the cult rivalry between two Formula One drivers namely Niki Lauda (played by Daniel Bruhl) and Niki Lauda (played by Chris Hemsworth).

Brad Pitt’s forthcoming acting projects include a jungle adventure movie ‘Lost City of D’ co-starring Sandra Bullock and Daniel Radcliffe, action thriller ‘Bullet Train’, and period drama film ‘Babylon’ co-starring Tobey Maguire and Olivia Wilde.
