Damien Chazelle’s psychedelic movie ‘Babylon’ released in US theatres late last year. The film was a box office flop, raking in poor numbers at ticket windows across the world. The film also polarised critics and audiences, who praised it for its cinematography, production design and performances, while criticising its screenplay, direction and graphic content.
The film released on streaming in India, albeit on pay per view, on Prime Video India. Now the PVOD run of the movie is also done with, and Babylon is now gearing up to stream on OTT in India on regular subscription-based streaming. ‘Babylon’ will stream for all subscribers on Prime Video India from 5th July onwards.
‘Babylon’ boasts an ensemble cast, including Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, and Li Jun Li. The film is written and directed by Damien Chazelle, who’s earlier given gems such as Whiplash and La La Land. ‘Babylon’ centres on 1920s Hollywood, along with the depravity prevalent in the film industry of that time. The movie captures the time when Hollywood was transitioning from silent films to talkies.
The official synopsis of ‘Babylon’ reads, “Decadence, depravity and outrageous excess lead to the rise and fall of several ambitious dreamers in 1920s Hollywood as the industry begins to transition from silent pictures to the world of sound films”.
