Netflix releases new shows and series almost every day, each week, each month. There’s something or the other that’s always trending which is produced by Netflix. Netflix without fail has series and movies that fit all kinds of genres and themes. Netflix probably might have given life to a few new themes and genres too without increasing the library of films and shows. Now, with all these that have been releasing Netflix released a limited series recently, that’s titled “Brand New Cherry Flavour” and trust us when we say that it is one of the most wacked off, weirdest series ever but then again, it never loses the fun that it promises.
Now, what makes “Brand New Cherry Flavour”, here we have a few key points that might help you in figuring that out. But first, a gist of the show- the series follows a young director who is called to Hollywood after her short film catches the attention of a particular someone. It is the early 90s and Hollywood is at its peak, with neon lights, pulp fiction-y things, but then again things are way too weird for our little short film director to digest.
Also, the title is the most random thing of the show, which is even weird because the entire show, there’s nothing “Brand New” nor “Cherry Flavoured”.
If Being Grotesque Had An Award
Exactly, if a series being grotesque had an award, Brand New Cherry Flavor would be winning the race by now. So how gross are things? Well, if you are fans of that Piranha eating, decapitating humans kind of movies, and movies like “Saw” and “Wrong Turn Left”, then this is right up your alley. Also, if you are not, then let us warn you that it has a fair share of, flesh removals, raw meat dishes with hearts, livers, eyes, and stuff. Also not to mention cats and dogs, that too with a side of raw eggs, and let us tell you, this isn’t half of what it looks like. Again, do not try to watch this when you are sick or eating. Not a good idea.
Creatures From All-Around
Well, this for sure is a series that has humans, but then again this is also a series that has creatures that look like humans. If you want a show that gives you all, I guess this should be it. If you are looking for witches, spirits, hallucinations, faceless ghosts, dead bodies, zombies, creatures with woody faces, cannibals, and a few “humane” murderers, well this is your one-stop destination to get them all. The amount of these creatures pop up literally at the end normalizes everything and you feel like this wouldn’t have been a show, that it is if it didn’t have these creatures. Like for real.
Craziest Sound Effect
Well, most of us have watched the horror movie “The Grudge”, where the ghost has a very remarkable way of making its entry with its unique “creaking door noises”. This sound has freaked people for years now. Then there comes “Chernobyl”, which was no horror show, but the certain sound of the dosimeter sounded more deadly than the explosion to the viewers. Like that, this series too has a certain sound effect that will actually make you jump and one cannot even mention or tell how the sound is. The best way to describe it is that it is some sort of mix between techno and static sound. Now, if you have a good imagination, we are sure you might have some idea, but if not then, watch the series.
Don’t Do Drugs. Like Literally. Don’t.
One of the main plots of the series involves a sequence that occurred due to the parties consuming drugs of some sort, for “fun”, to get high. But this isn’t fun when you literally pick your eyeball out, play with it, eat it and pass out on the highway for two days. Something so strong that will allow you to forget things and not remember them for months at stretch. Also, again drugs play the main role as to why and how they easily get past a dead body. So, for a long time, you might be under the illusion that it is not the drug, but you will end up knowing by the end anyway.
Puking And Humors
Well, puking is one great part of the series. When we talk great, we mean a massive part of the show is based on the main character puking out a particular “something”, without which the show wouldn’t be what it is. Funnily though, the way everyone around the character reacts when she pukes that particular “something” is quite hilarious in a dark way. They behave as if it’s just someone puking after they had a good long party at the club, but that isn’t what happens. Also, if you are someone who can catch dark humor, then you would love this show totally.
It Takes You Some Time To Understand The Motto
The motto is “don’t go out of your way to attain fame”. This is set in Hollywood, what else would you expect? A young, passionate girl badly wants to be a director but cannot get in and she by hook or crook will get to what she wants. But the realization sets in only when she loses people, sees death, almost dies, gets knocked out, makes enemies of all kinds, and settles the score. One doesn’t have to go to such extremes when someone gets angry, you need to have a solid plan, rather than acting out and making a deal with a century-old entity.
Well, this is somehow what the show is all about, hope we haven’t spoiled it enough for you. Even if it’s gross, dark, set in the early 90s, “Brand New Cherry Flavour” definitely needs your attention and we believe it is a must-watch limited series from Netflix at this point.
