Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has welcomed Aldis Hodge to play Hawkman in DC’s ‘Black Adam’. Dwayne Johnson will be portraying the titular anti-hero and Hodge will portray Carter Hall (Hawkman’s alter-ego), a member of the Justice Society of America. Noah Centineo is set to play Atom Smasher in the same film.
Hodge is coming off a career high after the pre-Covid, 2020 reboot ‘The Invisible Man’ and Regina King’s directorial debut ‘One Night in Miami’ where he portrayed Jim Brown, which got him and the film rave reviews. The actor was invited on to the project by ‘The Rock’ on the phone, which Hodge didn’t believe him at the time. After finally being convinced on who was on the other side of the line talking to him, he was ecstatic.
Jaume Collet-Serra, who had previously directed Johnson in Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’, is helming this project. The drafts for the script have been provided by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions are producing with Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. FlynnPictureCo’s Scott Sheldon will come on board as executive producer.
Black Adam was initially supposed to be introduced in the film ‘Shazam’. But the film production decided it would be better to introduce the two characters in their own stand-alone films and then bring them together to clash in a later feature. This movie will provide a back-story for the anti-hero, while introducing other major DC characters such as the members of the Justice Society of America, Cyclone and Doctor Fate.
The movie will begin its shoot in Georgia next year. For more news, follow us on twitter and over here on our website.
