After the phenomenal success of Sarpatta Parambarai on Prime Video, its maker Pa. Ranjith has moved on to an even more exciting project. The stellar director will begin production on his next, ‘Vettuvam’ meaning ‘The Hunted’. What is unique about this project is that it will be made in the form of a linked film and series – the film will come first, followed by a series. Both film and series will be in the Tamil language.
Vettuvam is the first time such a concept will be created in the Indian film industry, or should we say, in the global film industry too.
Vettuvam is centred on a Robin Hood type outlaw, who turns himself to the police to hoodwink his enemies. But the prison system is a revelation to him – he finds it appalling and demeaning. Moved by the conditions inside the prison, the gangster stands up to the rampant injustice within the prison. A large part of Vettuvam is set in the backdrop of prison cells.
‘Vettuvam’ the film will be followed by ‘Vettuvam’ the series. The film will relate the primary plot of the story. The series boasts an innovative concept. Each episode of the series will showcase the point of view of a different character that has been introduced in the film. The Vettuvam film and series will thus be linked to each other. The film is likely to release in the theatres, while the series will release on streaming.
Vettuvam is produced by Golden Ratio Films, the film production arm of Vistas Media Capital, and Pa. Ranjith’s Neelam Studios. Vettuvam will be produced by Pa. Ranjith, Abhayanand Singh, Piiyush Singh, Saurabh Gupta and Aditi Anand, and co-produced by Ashwini Chaudhary and Parul Singh.
Vettuvam will most likely kick off production in August 2022. There’s no word on the cast and rest of the crew of the film and series yet.
