Brian Taylor To Direct New Live-Action Hellboy Reboot

According to a recent report from Discussing Film, Millennium Media is rebooting the Hellboy franchise again. Brian Taylor will helm the upcoming live-action reboot. Additionally, it will share no connection with David Harbour’s 2019 film, based on the same character.

The project is deep into development, with plans to commence filming this April in Bulgaria. Millennium Media is currently looking for a star-studded cast before starting the film’s production in April.

‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ is the working title of the forthcoming reboot. Although, the studio has not confirmed if this will be the movie’s official title. A 3-issue miniseries, written by Mike Mignola, of the same name came out in April 2011. It takes the readers back to 1956. The Great Beast encounters Tom in the mountains of West Virginia. In his youth, the latter made a deal with a backwoods demon, The Crooked Man, that forced him to sell his soul to that demon. The duo drops a visit to the Appalachian mountains again to confront that demon and get back Tom’s soul.

Plot details of the upcoming Hellboy reboot are under wraps right now. We don’t know if the studio will adapt the ‘The Crooked Man’ storyline into the film or not.

The previous Hellboy reboot, starring David Harbour, tanked at the box office, earning only $55 million against the production budget of $50 million. Despite being an R-rated project, Neil Marshall’s adaptation ended up being a soulless reboot. Although, the leading man received some praise for his performance.

Brian Taylor is best known for his directing duties in Crank (2006), Crank: High Voltage (2009), and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011). The upcoming Hellboy reboot may give the director a chance to get back in the game after the disastrous performance of his last feature directional. Stay tuned for more updates.
