‘Bridgerton’ Creator Shondaland’s Next ‘The Residence’ Ordered At Netflix

Shondaland’s ’The Residence’, a thrilling murder mystery drama has been ordered to series at Netflix. This latest eight part series uses Kate Andersen Brower’s book ‘The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House’ as an inspiration to kick start.

Showrunner and executive producer Paul William Davies (‘Scandal’, ‘For the People’) has created an all new and unique murder-mystery story for ‘The Residence’ as part of his multi-year overall deal with Netflix.

The official logline for ‘The Residence’ reads, “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”

Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers serve as executive producers for ‘The Residence’ under their overall deal with Netflix. Shondaland and Netflix have together created popular shows like the regency era romantic drama ‘Bridgerton’ and the more recent limited series ‘Inventing Anna’. The success of these shows leads to raised expectation form the production house and given The Residence’s premise it could be their next big hit.

There are multiple other Netflix-Shondaland projects underway that include a Bridgerton spinoff limited series based on the origins of Queen Charlotte, ‘The Warmth of Other Suns’ based on Pulitzer-Prize winning author Isabel Wilkerson’s award-winning book of the same name and more.
