Bruce Wayne’s Origin Story Will Not Be Shown in The Batman

We have watched various versions of Bruce Wayne’s origin story in different Batman projects. But all of them had one common element. The fans have witnessed Thomas and Martha Wayne getting gunned down in front of Bruce multiple times. It was that moment that inspired Bruce to don The Dark Knight’s suit and protect the innocents of the crime-ridden Gotham City. But the director of DC’s upcoming The Batman, Matt Reeves, has decided to go against this storyline in his movie.

Speaking in his recent interview with Esquire, Reeves revealed why Bruce Wayne’s origin story is not a part of The Batman. “We’ve seen it so many times,” the helmer told Esquire. “It’s been done too much. I knew we couldn’t do that.”

According to the latest reports, the movie takes place two years after Bruce wore Batman’s cape for the very first time. And it is not like Marvel hasn’t done this thing. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Homecoming (2017) is the best example of this scenario. Marvel’s decision to not show Uncle Ben’s tragic death again on the big screen worked quite well among the fans.

Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) is considered dark and violent with enough blend of humour. The director has publicly stated that he always wanted The Joker to be the murderer of Bruce Wayne’s parents. However, a majority of the Batman fanbase showed their concerns towards Burton’s approach to the movie’s storyline at that time.

On the other hand, Christopher Nolan gave a new angle to Bruce’s origin as The Caped Crusader in Batman Begins (2005). We got a low-level thief as the murderer of Thomas and Martha Wayne this time. But it was Ra’s Al Ghul who identified Bruce’s talents and took him under his wing as part of the League of Shadows.

“I’m very proud of it. I felt it was the best version of the story that we could possibly do to justify having another Batman,” Reeves continued. “You always have to have a reason, and from the beginning that was the mission for me.”

The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffery Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, and many more will come out on March 4, exclusively in theatres. It will release in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages in India.
