2021 has brought us a stellar lineup and the cinephiles could not be happier as most of 2020 had to be spent away from the theatres. Even though OTT platforms brought us some riveting content very few things can compete with the experience that is provided by the cinema hall.
Here we have ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ and ‘Thalaivi’ that are going head to head in the box office on 23rd April and here is our take on how it can pan out
Crew
‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ has Sharvari Wagh, Siddhart Chaturvedi, Rani Mukherjee, Saif Ali Khan, Yashpal Sharm, and Mohit Baghel playing important roles in the film. The film is helmed by a debutant director Varun V Sharma and is produced by Aditya Chopra who has also created the story.
Thalaivi is a biographical drama that has talented actors like Kangana Ranaut, Sameera Reddy, Prakash Raj, Arvind Swammy, Ashutosh Rana, and others as part of their main cast. The film is directed by AL Vijay. Thalaivi is produced by Vishnuvardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh.
Despite Kangana Ranaut being the power-packed performer that she is this round has to go to Bunty Aur Babli 2 as it has more renowned names in its main cast.
Thalaivi
Plot
Bunty Aur Babli 2 is a crime comedy film and serves as the sequel to the 2005 ‘Bunty Aur Babli’. Even though this is a sequel Rani Mukherjee is the only star lead who has been retained for the second installment and the story should revolve around the life of con artists.
Thalaivi is a biographical drama that depicts the life of politician and film actress J. Jayalalithaa who served six terms as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Kangana Ranaut plays the titular role of J. Jayalalitha in this film and shows all the obstacles that she had to face in her life to reach the pinnacles of success.
This round surely has to go to Thalaivi as the viewers have always loved a good biography as many of them will be curious to know the actual story behind this charismatic figure.
Buzz
Bunty Aur Babli was a hit with its unique theme that focussed on the life of two con artists. It had a really talented cast and the perfect mixture of entertainment and a quality storyline. It also had some memorable tunes that are hummed to this very day plus it is bankrolled by one of the biggest production houses in the nation.
Thalaivi has managed to create a decent buzz due to the topic that it targets. It sheds light on Jayalalitha who was one of the most powerful figures in the political landscape of Tamil Nadu and India.
Even though Bunty Aur Babli 2 may have the entertainment quota and a stellar cast the sheer theme of Thalaivi has increased the anticipation amongst the audience which is why we feel that Thalaivi may have a narrow advantage in this field and thus wins the round.
It will still be a close call as both of the projects will be aiming to do big business where one is being bankrolled by one of the biggest production houses and the other sheds light on one of the most celebrated female politicians in the nation so ultimately it is the cinema lovers who are in a win-win situation.
