Luc Besson is teaming up with Caleb Landry Jones and Christoph Waltz for his upcoming movie based on Dracula’s origin story. The project will be Jones’ second collaboration with Besson after Dogman (2023).
Known for his sci-fi and action thrillers, Luc Besson is returning to the epic fantasy genre with his forthcoming Dracula project. His last fantasy flick was an animated one, Arthur 3: The War of the Two Worlds, which arrived in theatres in October 2010.
Caleb Landry Jones will play the iconic Count Dracula in the film. Over the years, many feature directors have delivered different adaptations of Bram Stoker’s creation. The most prominent among them is Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), helmed by Francis Ford Coppola. The talented Gary Oldman played the Transylvania count-turned-vampire in this one. The rest of the film’s cast included Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, and Keanu Reeves.
It is unclear what role Christoph Waltz will play in the next Luc Besson project. His last live-action role was in Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time To Die (2021), which had Daniel Craig as James Bond. On the other hand, Jones’s last feature project was Dogman, which turned out to be a box office disaster, earning only $4 million.
Created in the 1890s, Dracula is a story about a nobleman who loses his wife. In his anger and defiance towards God, he transforms into a vampire. Luc Besson’s film will concentrate more on the protagonist’s early life and relationship with his wife. Stay tuned for more updates.
