Just a few weeks back, the entire North India went crazy for Stree 2, which has Shraddha Kapoor, daughter of Shakti Kapoor. We all enjoyed the film because it is indeed a well-made film with very high entertainment value.
But, just last week, Prime Video came up with a whole new series starring Ananya Pandey in the lead role, and people are having renewed problems with Nepotism.
If we boil it down then we realise that those extra talented nepotism products like Shraddha Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and Alia Bhatt are fine with everyone but not mediocre or incapable actors like Arjun Kapoor and perhaps even Ananya Pandey as she is yet to deliver a super strong performance.
Coming to “Call Me Bae”, we want you to take the memory lane and go to Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Kareena Kapoor’s “Pooh” is easily one of the most exaggerated and hyper unrealistic characters you can come across. But, Pooh is the guilty pleasure of crores of people. If you try to imagine someone else instead of Kareena Kapoor then it would be extremely difficult to visualise.
To sum up, the role of Pooh was written keeping Kareena Kapoor in mind. Because she can easily play along the lines that define a total cringe from guilty pleasures.
Perhaps “Call Me Bae” is written keeping Ananya Pandey in mind. An actress like Bhoomi Pednekar could not have been a fit for this role.
So, once in a while series like this serve for entertainment.
But there is no doubt that we deserve better entertainment and democratization of the Indian film industries is a must for that.
As for Call Me Bae, it is a strictly average show with occasional awkward jokes. You may watch it for the sake of watching but we can’t really recommend it to you.
All the benefits and privileges of nepotism in the world for Ananya Panday, and she still can't act to save her life
