It’s Friday tomorrow and another Bollywood movie is getting released. This time it’s Coolie No. 1. The second version of Coolie No. 1 will be released tomorrow on Amazon Prime Video. This time it stars Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in place of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor. The story is going to follow the similar path as that of the 1995 movie. The movie is helmed by David Dhawan and also stars Paresh Rawal, Javed Jaffrey, Rajpal Yadav and others.
The movie is one of the Bollywood biggies that will be releasing in 2020 directly on OTT. Sadly almost all the Bollywood movies that have released over this year on OTT have flopped or have hardly met the expectations that people had for that particular flick. This category of movies specially has those particular ones that had the A-List celebrities or superstars of Bollywood and, Coolie No. 1 feels like another of those movies that is about to hit us.
We know we shouldn’t judge the movie before it’s even released because we never know what impresses the audience in which moment and what film becomes a hit. We can never be sure of this. Also Coolie No. 1 falls in that certain category of movies that normally appeases the Indian crowd. It is the “Masala Movie” that everyone craves for once in a while and this might probably end that thirst for the Indian audience.
But then again this generation has already seen the cult movie back in the late 90s and early 00s and we have thoroughly loved it. Govinda was the undisputed king of comedy back in the days and Varun Dhawan replacing him in this movie will truly be a big deal. Also, at that point of time Karishma Kapoor and other female leads could equally lead the comedy movies but this generation’s actresses are just kept as arm candy for the heroes, while they crack all the jokes and take the movie forward.
With the past much anticipated movies like Laxmii and Durgamati being big time flops, the hopes are riding high with this one, but there’s really a lot of expectations and hopes attached to the movie and it already is giving the vibe at the moment that it might not be able to carry forward with it, but that’s all for tomorrow for us to see. Only then can the audience assess how high the movie is on the ranking charts for this year.
