Disney Plus Hotstar’s upcoming psychological thriller series ‘Masoom’ is all geared up to start streaming on the OTT platform from 17th June onwards. The show’s trailer had received positive feedback from the audiences.
But can ‘Masoom’ replicate the streaming success of SonyLIV’s critically acclaimed crime drama ‘Tabbar’, a tonally similar project which turned out to be amongst the best shows of 2021 and became a widely admired asset for SonyLIV. It looks like ‘Masoom’ has the potential to do that in terms of how well it has been executed. And here is why we think so.
The first and the foremost reason is the involvement of the immensely talented duo – Mihir Desai and Gurmeet Singh. Both of them had directed several episodes of Amazon Prime Video’s cult crime show ‘Mirzapur’.
While Mihir Desai has directed Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘Masoom’, Gurmeet Singh is said to be the showrunner for the series. Besides ‘Mirzapur’, Gurmeet Singh had also helmed Prime Video’s ‘Inside Edge’. Considering the creative fireworks in their previous collaboration ‘Mirzapur’, chances are high that OTT audiences will witness the magic in ‘Masoom’ as well.
Moreover, the six-part psychological thriller series ‘Masoom’ is a remake of the Irish show ‘Blood’, which has got a decent IMDb rating of 7.1/10 and 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. So, the source material is gripping and proven in the past.
‘Masoom’ features the gifted performer Boman Irani along with Samara Tijori as a father-daughter duo. The show’s story is set in Punjab and follows how the daughter wants to uncover the stark truth behind her mother’s mysterious death – a buried secret that everyone wishes to remain hidden from her.
It would be interesting to see how the Disney+ Hotstar show ‘Masoom’ would be received by Indian OTT audiences and whether it could be at par, or who knows, even surpass the entertainment value of SonyLIV’s ‘Tabbar’.
