With the House of the Dragon expected to drop on HBO Max later this year (most likely in summer), we should not forget about the brilliant show that made this spin-off happen – Game of Thrones. The brilliant TV series, at one point, was the most show of all time, before a final season so jarring that it caused many a fan to renounce their love for the show. Similar to the brilliant anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist, can Game of Thrones too also have a reboot – and if so, will it be as successful as Brotherhood was?
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a Japanese comic book series that released weekly from 2001 to 2010. This manga (AKA comics) series became so popular that an animation studio decided to animate the series in 2003. But similar to the novel series, A Song of Ice And Fire, the animators of the Fullmetal Alchemist series did not have enough of the source material to complete the show. So just like David Benioff and D.B Weiss, they had to come with their own ending – and to their credit, it wasn’t as bad an ending as the Game of Thrones final season was. The anime series completed by 2004 and it was widely accepted as cannon.
That was until Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood dropped in 2009. Unlike the previous anime, this show stayed true to the original source material and quickly became a favourite around the globe. And by the time, it was completed, this anime started to be known as the original and the older version as an alternate universe spin-off. We hope that A Song Of Ice And Fire series will get the same treatment, but for that to happen, George R. R. Martin will have to complete the last couple of books first. So, while not impossible, it is highly improbable that will get a look at the “original version” anytime soon. But it just might work for Harry Potter.
